Columbian Class of 1958 (source TCAA)
The Columbian Class of 1958 celebrated its 50th class reunion with a round of activities that began on Friday evening with parties in the homes of Lake Mohawk residents, Dick & Barb Kuhn and Judy (Blust) Henderson.
On Saturday evening, classmates gathered for a social hour at Lake Mohawk Country Club, amid vases of pink roses and silver decorations on blue & gold table cloths. On the tables, were etched glass vases with a single floating rose (the class flower) designed by Bob Yager of Crystal Traditions with the school tower and the class motto, "Tonight we launch, where will we anchor?". Each classmate received a vase as a 50* reunion parting gift..
A memorabilia table, assembed by Sue Grotty and Delsi (Myers) Martin, contained scrapbooks, letter sweater outfits, photos and tributes to Elvis and the music of the 50's. Rita (Doll) Butler made name tags for the class using their graduation photo to help identify everyone. Herb Love and wife Carol published and assembled an address book for each classmate.
Mary Lou (Walker) Harrison welcomed the group with a poem entitled "The Class Reunion" and Robert Sheely gave the invocation followed by a pork and chicken buffet. Two especially decorated cakes, designed for the 50th were served as dessert. Nancy Ferguson provided the 50's music for the evening.
The" business" meeting and program followed with remarks by class president, Duane Painter and vice-president, Patrick Huber. Reunion co-chair, Evelyn (Hottenstein) Houck conducted a memorial service for 24 deceased members.
"It's About Time" awards went to first timers: Milton Smith and Sharon (Bish) Cooney. The "Early Bird" award went to Rita (Doll) Butler and the "Last Call" award went to Ruth Ann (Jacobs) Renninger.
Dale Fadley read a poem entitled " The land that made me, me".
Anna (Barth) Haaser, a classmate who teaches and dances clogging brought her dancing group, Heartland Express Cloggers, to present a dance program.
The class reunion committee consisted of Houck, Harrison, Huber, Yager, Love, Butler, Grotty, and Martin.
Harrison was presented with a special hand-made blue and gold quilt with all the class names embroidered on tornadoes, made by Joyce (Fowler) Fadley , as a thank you for planning the reunions every five years.
A class photo and grade school photos were taken at the end of the evening. Next plans will be for a 70th birthday party in 2010.
