1943 - Donald J Corthell

   Donald James Corthell, 83, of Parkview Drive, Tiffin, died at 10:36 p.m. Monday, Janurary 19, 2009, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo. Don was a 1943 Columbian High School graduate.
   He served in the Navy as a sonar man in the Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1946.
   He retired after 40 years from Hossler Construction Company, where he worked as a project foreman and carpenter.


1943 - Ruth M (Ruehle) Crow
   Ruth M Crow , 82, of Mukilteo, WA passed away peacefully with family at her side in Everett, WA on June 30, 2008. She was born October 16, 1925 in Bellevue, OH, and raised in Tiffin, OH.
   Ruth graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School and attended Bowling Green State University.
   She then enrolled in Nurse's Training Program at Cleveland's Mt. Sinai Hospital, g graduating in 1947. She was a Registered Nurse first in Ohio and later in Virginia and Connecticut, preferring assignments in surgery.


1943 - Donald W Montz

   Donald "Don" W. Montz, 83, of Tiffin, died Saturday morning, March 14, 2009, at his residence.
   On December 9, 1925, he was born to Herbert and Mildred (Feagles) Montz in Melmore. He married Jean Borer April 30, 1949. She survives. Other survivors include four sons, Dennis (Carol) Montz of Toledo, James (Betty) Montz of Tiffin, Larry (LuAnn) Montz of Carey, and Brian Montz of Tiffin; two daughters, Barb (Randy) Cooper of Avon Lake and Lynn (Tim) Ardner of Tiffin; a brother, Bill Montz of Florida; seven sisters, Doris Wertz, Betty (Jerry) Rhoad, and Carolyn (Don) Wellman, all of Tiffin, and Marian Vondenberg, Helen Cline, Frances (Jerry) Garn, and Cathryn (Gene) Biller, all of Florida; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Preceding him in death are his parents and two brothers, Jim and Bob Montz.
   Don graduated from Columbian High School in 1943, and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1943-46 in the Pacific Theatre.


1943 - Marjorie (Yoder) Varah

   Marjorie J. Varah passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at the Fort Memorial Hospital.
    She was born in Tiffin, Ohio, the daughter of the late Albert A. and Ruth (Mizen) Yoder.
   Marjorie married Leonard J. Varah in Farr Chapel of the First Congregational Church in Greeley, Colorado, on August 21, 1959. He preceded her in death on December 28, 1999.
   She was a graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Mrs. Varah received a master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado and certification in vision from Northern Illinois University. She was a business education teacher for many years in Michigan, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Marjorie was a 1943 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.
